Hugh White’s essay in the July 2018 issue of Australian Foreign Affairs, like many he has written before, is thought-provoking. It makes a case that a strong Indonesia which shares Australia’s aims would be a great asset for Australia. Yet given the current thinking in Indonesia, it is doubtful whether this proposition will generate buy-in among policymakers.
